tend to和intend to

  intend的基本含义是“意欲,打算”,指把注意力集中在某一确定要完成的事或达到的明确目的上,也可表示一心想要某人或某事服务于或达到某一目的。

  一.用作动词

  1.意欲，打算，计划，想要

  Do you intend to go to the town by the northern route?

  你打算由北边的路去城里吗？

  2.打算使，想让…做

  I intend that he shall be a physician.

  我打算使他成为医生。

  I intend it as a stop-gap.

  我想拿它凑数。

  3.意指，怀有某种意图或目的

  What do you intend by this remark?

  你这话是什么意思？

  二.intend多用作及物动词。其后可接名词、动名词、动词不定式或由that引导的从句作宾语,也可接由“to be/as+ n. ”或动词不定式充当补足语的复合宾语。有时还可以接双宾语,其间接宾语可转化为介词for的宾语。可用于被动结构。intend后接的that从句中,谓语动词须用虚拟语气。
